Shaker's "Blue Bison" sports teams include boys' soccer, basketball, track, Cross Country, golf, ice hockey, wrestling; girls' field hockey, lacrosse; boys' and girls' swimming, diving, gymnastics, tennis, softball, volleyball and football. Both boys' and girls' crew (rowing) is offered as a club sport.
Shaker High School has started a "University" in the High School Science Research program. In this program, students are offered the opportunity to select a scientific topic and perform original research. In this three-year program, students first gather background information, find a mentor, perform their research, and reach a conclusion based on the results.
The program is run by Biology teacher Nathaniel Covert. A symposium is held in June each year, where Shaker students, teachers, mentors, and parents are welcome.
The school has upper and lower courtyards. The upper is the larger, and has gardens, benches, and picnic tables. Some students used to spend their lunch time and study hall here before it was closed to students in 2011. The lower courtyard has four walkways connecting the buildings.
